My name is Craig Britton and I created Mastering Freelance Writing because I want to help freelance writers—beginners and experienced alike—to achieve their full potential.
I’ll share what I have learnt from my experience with freelance writing and hope you can take away something useful you can put into action.
“Writing Is Like a Muscle”
This is something someone told me at university and is very true. Muscles need to be exercised to stay in peak condition.
When you stop writing, it gets harder, and when you write more, you get better at it.
You need to keep up the practice and live it. I myself am still learning.
We should all regard ourselves as ‘still learning‘ because the moment we stop, we get left behind.
Not Just for Freelancers
I also want my content to be seen by people who are thinking of hiring a freelance writer, to get into their frame of mind.
Fiction writers are also welcome to listen in and take away what they might need.
There is plenty of overlap between content writing, copywriting, and technical writing and more creative forms of writing, such as screenwriting and fiction writing.
How Did I Start Writing?
I first got into writing because I wanted to be a film director. I went to study Creative & Professional Writing and Film Studies at the University of East London and found that I really enjoyed writing.
At first, I was very hesitant about diving into freelance writing. It wasn’t until a company I was working at collapsed did I finally make the change—it was kind of a ‘now or never moment’, and I’m glad it happened.
